Metacognition (A Poem)

Screen shot 2017-04-22 at 8.12.45 PM
“Your thoughts are the architects of your destiny.”

-David O. McKay

Think about your thoughts
What do they say to you?
(The messages they’re sending
May not always be true)

Which ones are simply fleeting
What are your fixations?
Where’s your mental energy?
Your (too high?) expectations

Related are emotions
Priorities revealed
Your life is heav’ly influenced
By what you choose to feel

You’ve only got so much
Of your care to go around (it’s a)
Good idea to jettison those
Thoughts that bring you down

Don’t underestimate the power
and importance of self-talk
If needed, make adjustments
Some changes to your thoughts!

“Got me analyzing everything that
ain’t worth thinking ’bout.”

-Kacey Musgraves

If I Had A Windfall (a poem)

If I had a windfall
I’d spend it on debt
Been working those payments
Still not quite there yet

It’s steady but slow
We’ve had some delays
Job losses and changes
Two babes on the way πŸ‘ΆπŸ»πŸ‘ΆπŸ»

But still, there’ve been vict’ries
And blessings galore
When you do good with small things
The Lord gives you more

Proud of our progress
The headway we’ve made
Now, back to my work
So I can get PAID!

Own Your Insecurities (a poem)

“There rises…a longing to inquire about the mystery of this heart.”
-Matthew Arnold ‘The Buried Life’

Own your insecurities
State them and be clear (don’t)
Smother your emotions
Identify your fear

Be open and be honest
Tell yourself the truth
Own your insecurities
So that they don’t own you

Not My Load To Carry (a poem)

IMG_0764.PNG

“[Ye] cannot bear all things now…”
-Doctrine & Covenants 50:40

Not my load to carry (it’s not)
My burden to bear
Sorry if it’s heartless, (don’t have)
Energy to care

My heart soaks up emotions
I get myself involved
Need better boundary maint’nance (there are)
Problems I can’t solve

Mourn with those who mourn
But not if it’s just me
Help me to be wise and to
Discern my energies

Sometimes we’re the answer
To someone else’s pleading (some)
Times we simply can’t provide
What someone else is needing

Can actually do more good
Can be a better steward (when I)
Realize limitations
And leave them to the Lord
